Saint-Herblain (France), 20 juin 2019 – Valneva SE (“Valneva” or “the Company”), a biotech company developing and commercializing vaccines for infectious diseases with major unmet needs, today announces that GSK and Valneva have decided, by mutual agreement, to end the Strategic Alliance Agreement (“SAA”), originally agreed between Novartis and Intercell (predecessor companies of GSK and Valneva, respectively). Valneva will pay €9 million to GSK immediately and up to a further €7 million in milestones relating to marketing approvals of its Lyme vaccine. As a result, Valneva is now fully in control of its main R&D assets including its Lyme vaccine candidate VLA15.
Valneva possède le seul vaccin en développement clinique dans le monde contre la maladie de Lyme et est pleinement engagé dans le développement de ce produit. Le Groupe s’attache à faire progresser ce programme et a récemment fait état de l’avancement de ses études de Phase 2. VLA15, qui a reçu le statut de Fast Track de l’agence de santé américaine FDA, est actuellement en essais cliniques de Phase 2. Le financement du développement clinique du vaccin contre la maladie de Lyme est entièrement assuré jusqu’à la fin de la Phase 2.
Valneva développe, par ailleurs, un candidat vaccin contre le chikungunya, VLA1553, dont les caractéristiques sont uniques. Des résultats positifs récemment publiés plaident fortement pour une accélération du développement de ce candidat vaccin et le Groupe s'attache à le faire progresser, le plus rapidement possible. VLA1553 bénéficie également du statut de Fast Track de la FDA.
