Saint Herblain (France), November 28, 2019 – Valneva SE (“Valneva” or “the Company”), today announced that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved the extension of the shelf life of its Japanese encephalitis vaccine IXIARO® from 24 months to 36 months.
IXIARO® is indicated for the prevention of Japanese encephalitis, a potentially devastating disease, for people who travel to, or live in endemic areas.

Valnevas Impfstoff zur aktiven Immunisierung und Vorbeugung von Japanischer Enzephalitis ist zugelassen für Erwachsene, die in endemische Gebiete reisen, oder dort leben. Über Japanische Enzephalitis
Japanische Enzephalitis (JE) ist eine tödliche Infektionskrankheit, die vor allem in Asien vorkommt. 70.000 Fälle von JE treten schätzungsweise jedes Jahr in Asien auf, obwohl die tatsächliche Zahl der Fälle aufgrund von zu geringen Angaben in ländlichen Gebieten und anderen Faktoren wahrscheinlich viel höher liegt. JE ist in etwa 30 % der Personen, die Symptome zeigen, tödlich und die Hälfte der Überlebenden trägt permanente Hirnschäden davon. Die Krankheit ist in Südostasien, Indien und China, einer Region mit mehr als 3 Milliarden Einwohnern, endemisch. In nur einem Monat im Jahr 2005 wurden mehr als 1.200 Kinder während einer Epidemie in Uttar Pradesh, Indien und Nepal getötet.
